Service for November 1, 2020

Communion Service on "All Saints Day"

(This service was recorded earlier on October 28 in the 'empty' sanctuary.)

The sound files are all underlined and in Bold Type and can be played while reading by "Right Clicking" on them and choosing "Open in New Tab."
All the pictures taken in the sanctuary may be enlarged by "Clicking" on them.
There will be variations on this depending on the Web Browser you are using to view the Summerlea Website.

On arrival to tape the service we were greeted by a Wickedly Delightful Halloween Surprise of Bon-Bons left behind by the Church Mouse for Scott, Connie, Colleen, John and George.

My, My but that mouse is busy!!

Adage   by S. Wesley.
(From '14 Short Pieces')

Call to Worship

And the Church Crow has paid a visit!
Will he(?), she (?) become a regular visitor??

The congregation is growing! Not a bad thing.

Sing Praises to God (VU 228)

Sing praises to God! Sing praise in the height;
Rejoice in God's word, blest angels of light;
High heavens, recalling by whom you were made,
Come, offer your worship in brightness arrayed.

Sing praises to God! Sing praise up on earth,
In tuneful accord, you saints of new birth;
Praise God, who has brought you
Rich grace from above,
And showered your life with abundance of love.

Sing praises to God,
All things that give sound;
Each jubilant chord re-echo around;
Loud organs, your glory tell out in deep tone,
And trumpets, the story of what God has done

Sing praises to God! Thanksgiving and song
Be ever outpoured, all ages along:
For love in creation, for hope spread abroad,
For grace of salvation, sing praises to God.

Matthew 23:1-12

Written Text: HERE.

Now Thank We All Our God (VU 236)

Now thank we all our God,
With heart and hands and voices,
Who wondrous things has done,
In whom this world rejoices;
Who from our mothers' arms
Has blessed us on our way
With countless gifts of love,
And still is ours today.

O may this bounteous God
Through all our life be near us,
With ever joyful hearts
And blessed peace to cheer us;

And keep us strong in grace,
And guide us when perplexed;
And free us from all ill,
In this world and the next!

All praise and thanks to God
For all that has been given;
The Son, and Spirit blest
Who dwell in highest heaven;
The one eternal God,
Whom earth and Heaven adore;
For thus it was, is now,
And shall be evermore

Anthem

A Communion Anthem

Due to the continuing pandemic restrictions the choir cannot meet.
However, for this Communion Sunday Service I have found a communion anthem the choir sang in 2012 on Mothers Day Sunday.

Anthem:  I am the Bread of Life

John Michael Talbot, 1982
Arr'd by Phil Perkins.

The May 2012 choir.

One Bread, One Body
(VU 467)

Chorus:
One bread, one body
One Lord of all
One cup of blessing which we bless
And we, though many
Throughout the earth
We are one body in this one Lord

Gentile or Jew
Servant or free
Woman or man, no more.

Chorus

Many the gifts
Many the works
One in the Lord of all.

Chorus

Grain for the fields
Scattered and grown
Gathered to one, for all.

Chorus

For All The Saints (VU 705)

For all the saints,
Who from their labours rest,
All who by faith
Before the world confessed,
Your name, O Jesus,
Be forever blessed.
Hallelujah, hallelujah!

You were their Rock,
Their Fortress and their Might;
You were their Captain
In the well fought fight;
You, in the darkness drear,
Their one true Light.
Hallelujah, hallelujah!

O blest communion, fellowship divine!
We feebly struggle, they in glory shine;
Yet all are one within your great design.
Hallelujah, hallelujah!

The golden evening brightens in the west;
Soon, soon to faithful warriors comes their rest;
Sweet is the calm of paradise the blest.
Hallelujah, hallelujah!

But lo! there breaks a
Yet more glorious day;
The saints triumphant
Rise in bright array;
As God to glory calls
Them all away.
Hallelujah, hallelujah!

From earth's wide bounds,
From ocean's farthest coast,
Through gates of pearl
Streams in the countless host,
Singing to Father,
Son and Holy Ghost:
Hallelujah, hallelujah!

Once again, the service is ending while Connie
plays a few of the good ole tunes......

Tell Me The Stories of Jesus

Tell me the stories of Jesus
I love to hear;
Things I would ask Him to tell me
If He were here:
Scenes by the wayside,
Tales of the sea,
Stories of Jesus,
Tell them to me.

First let me hear how the children
Stood 'round His knee,
And I shall fancy His blessing
Resting on me;
Words full of kindness,
Deeds full of grace,
All in the love light
Of Jesus' face.

The Day You Gave Us, God, Is Ended

The day You Gave us, God, is ended,
The sun is sinking in the west;
To you our morning hymns ascended,
Your praise shall sanctify our rest.
