Third Sunday after Epiphany

Saraband with Variations

From the Keybord Suite in D minor
G. F. Handel

George Frideric Handel
1685 - 1759

Joyful, Joyful We Adore Thee

Joyful, Joyful We Adore Thee
God of glory,life and love;
Hearts unfold like flow’rs before you,
Opening to the sun above.
Melt the clouds of sin and sadness,
Drive the gloom of doubt away;
Giver of immortal gladness,
Fill us with the light of day!

All your works with joy surround you,
Earth and heaven reflect your rays,
Stars and angels sing around you,
Center of unbroken praise.
Field and forest, vale and mountain,
Flowery meadow, flashing sea,
Chanting bird and flowing fountain,
Sound their praise eternally

You are giving and forgiving,
Ever blessing, ever blest,
Wellspring of the joy of living,
Ocean depth of happy rest!
Source of grace and fount of blessing,
Let your light upon us shine
Teach us how to love each other,
Lift us to the jy devine.

Mortals, join the mighty chorus,
Which the morning stars began;
God's own love is reigning o’er us,
Joining people hand in hand.
Ever singing, march we onward,
Victors in the midst of strife,
Joyful music leads us Sunward
In the triumph song of life.

Jesus, You Have Come to the Lakeshore VU563

Jesus, you have come to the lakeshore
Looking neither for wealthy nor wise ones;
You only asked me to follow humbly.

O Jesus, with your eyes you have searched me,
And while smiling, have spoken my name;
Now my boat's left on the shoreline behind me;
By your side I will seek other seas.

You know so well my possessions;
My boat carries no gold and no weapons;
You will find there my nets and labour.

You need my hands, full of caring
Through my labours to give others rest,
And constant love that keeps on loving.

You, who have fished other oceans,
Ever longed for by souls who are waiting,
My loving friend, as thus you call me.

Gentle Voice

by Susan & Lee Dengler.

(Recorded in March, 2016)

...There's a voice that is gently calling.

"Leave behind your cares and strife.

Come to me. I will give you rest..."

Offering & (sung) Dedication

VU 570 (verse 2)

Take my hands, O Jesus, let them work for you,
Make tem strong and gentle, kind in all I do;
Let me watch you, Jesus, till I am gentle too,
Till my hands are kind hands, quick to work for you.

She Comes Sailing on the Wind (VU 380)

She comes sailing on the wind,
Her wings flashing in the sun;
On a journey just begun,
She flies on.
And in the passage of her flight,
Her song rings out through the night,
Full of laughter, full of light,
She flies on.

Silent waters rocking on the morning of our birth,
Like an empty cradle waiting to be filled.
And from the heart of God
The Spirit moved up on the earth,
Like a mother breathing life into her child.

Many were the dreamers
Whose eyes were given sight
When the Spirit filled their dreams
With life and form.
Deserts turned to gardens,
Broken hearts found new delight,
And then sang the spirit song within her heart.

To a gentle girl in Galilee,
A gentle breeze she came,
A whisper softly calling in the dark,
The promise of a child of peace
Whose reign would never end,
Mary sang the Spirit song within her heart.

Flying to the river, she waited circling high
Above the child now grown so full of grace.
As he rose up from the water,
She swept down from the sky,
And she carried him away in her embrace.

Long after the deep darkness
That fell upon the world,
After dawn returned in flame of rising sun,
The Spirit touched the earth again,
Again her wings unfurled,
Bringing life in wind and fire
As she flew on.

Commissioning & Benediction

Common Blessing
(by Don Besig & Nancy Price)

Filled with the spirit,
Filled with God's grace,
Filled with the friendship
We find in this place;
Called as disciples, go now in faith.
Jesus will show the way.

Go out and serve Him, serve Him.
Carry His word into all of the world.
Go and serve Him, serve Him.
Go out and serve our Lord.
Go serve our Lord.

(From the Keyboard Suite
in D minor by Handel.)

And now it's time to sing out a few good hymns to Connie's accompaniment.
Until next Sunday then...
Let's hear it!

Open My Eyes, That I May See (VU 371)

Open my eyes, that I may see
Glimpses of truth thou hast for me;
Place in my hands the wonderful key
That shall unclasp and set me free.

Silently now I wait for thee,
Ready, my God, thy will to see.
Open my eyes, illumine me, Spirit divine!

Open my ears, that I may hear
Voices of truth thou sendest clear;
And while the wave-notes fall on my ear,
Everything false will disappear.

Saviour, Like A Shepherd Lead Us

Saviour, like a shepherd lead us,
Much we need thy tender care;
In thy pleasant pastures feed us,
For our use thy folds prepare:

Blessed Jesus, blessed Jesus,
Thou hast bought us, thine we are;
Blessed Jesus, blessed Jesus,
Thou hast bought us, thine we are.

We are thine, do thou befriend us,
Be the guardian of our way;
Keep thy flock, from sin defend us,
Seek us when we go astray:

Blessed Jesus, blessed Jesus,
Hear thy children when they pray;
Blessed Jesus, blessed Jesus,
Hear thy children when they pray.
