Be Thou My Vision

Sunday's Palms Are Wednesdays Ashes
(VU 107)

Sunday's palms are Wednesdays ashes
As another Lent begins;
Thus we kneel before the Maker
In contrition for our sins.
We have marred baptismal pledges,
In rebellion gone astray;
Now returning, seek forgiveness;
Grant us pardon, God, this day!

We have failed to love our neighbors,
Their offences to forgive,
Have not listened to their troubles,
Nor have cared just how they live.
We are jealous, proud, impatient,
Loving over-much our things;
May the yielding of our failings
Be our our Lenten offerings.

We are hasty to judge others,
Blind to proof of human need;
And our lack of understanding
Demonstrates our inner greed;
4 We have wasted earths resources;
Want and suffering we've ignored;
Come and cleanse us, then restore us;
Make new hearts within us Lord!

Jesus, Tempted in the Desert
(VU 115)

Jesus, tempted in the desert,
lonely, hungry, filled with dread;
"Use your power," the tempter tells him;
"Turn these barren rocks to bread!"
"Not alone by bread," he answers,
"Can the human heart be filled.
Only by the Word that calls us
Is our deepest hunger stilled!"

Jesus, tempted on the mountain
By the lure of vast domain:
"Fall before me! Be my servant!
Glory, fame, you're sure to gain!"
Jesus sees the dazzling vision,
Turns his eyes another way:
"God alone deserves our homage!
God alone will I obey!"

When we face temptation's power,
Lonely, struggling, filled with dread,
Christ, who knew the tempter's hour,
Come and be our living bread.
By your grace, protect, preserve us
Lest we fall, your trust betray.
Yours, above all other voices,
Be the word we hear, obey.

The Offering

And a...

Sung Dedication

We praise you, O God,
Our Redeemer, Creator;
In grateful devotion
Our tribute we bring.
We lay it before you;
Wekneel and adore you;
We bless your holy name,
Glad praises we sing.

Common Blessing (Don Besig)

Go now in peace. Never be afraid.
God will go with you each hour of everyday.
Go now in faith, steadfast strong and true.
Know He will guide you in all that you do.
Go now in love and show you believe.
Reach out to others so all the world can see.
God will be there watching from above.
Go now in peace, in faith and in love.

Fugue in E-Flat BWV 876

From "48 Preludes and Fugues"
J. S. Bach

And things wind down now as
we shuffle off for a cuppa and hum a few old hymns...

Follow the Gleam

To the Knights in the days of old,
Keeping watch on the mountain height,
Came a vision of Holy Grail and a voice
Through the waiting night.
Follow, follow, follow the gleam,
Banners unfurled o'er all the world,
Follow, follow, follow the gleam
Of the Chalice that is the Grail.

And we who would serve the King
And loyally Him obey,
In the consecrate silence know
That the challenge still holds today.
Follow, follow, follow the gleam,
Standards of worth o'er all the earth,
Follow, follow, follow the gleam
Of the light that shall bring the dawn.

Pass Me Not, O Gentle Saviour VU 665

Pass me not, O gentle Savior,
Hear my humble cry;
While on others Thou art calling,
Do not pass me by.

Savior, Savior,
Hear my humble cry,
While on others Thou art calling,
Do not pass me by.

Let me at Thy throne of mercy
Find a sweet relief;
Kneeling there in deep contrition,
Help my unbelief.
