The Fifth Sunday in Lent

-- Prelude --

Holy, Holy Lord

Sing Praises to God
(VU 228)

Sing praises to God! Sing praise in the height;
Rejoice in God's word, blest angels of light;
High heavens, recalling by whom you were made,
Come, offer your worship in brightness arrayed.

Sing praises to God! Sing praise upon earth,
In tuneful accord, you saints of new birth;
Praise God, who has brought you rich grace from above,
And showered your life with abundance of love.

Sing praises to God, all things that give sound;
Each jubilant chord re-echo around;
Loud organs, your glory tell out in deep tone,
And trumpets, the story of what God has done.

Sing praises to God! Thanksgiving and song
Be ever out-poured, all ages along:
For love in creation, for hope spread abroad,
For grace of salvation, sing praises to God.

Tree of Life and Awesome Mystery
(VU 121)

Tree of life and awesome mystery,
In your death we are reborn,
Though you die in all of history,
Still you rise with every morn,
Still you rise with every morn.

Seed that dies to rise in glory,
May we see ourselves in you,
If we learn to live your story,
We may die to rise anew,
We may die to rise anew.

We remember truth once spoken,
Love passed on through act and word,
Every person, lost and broken
Wears the body of our Lord,
Wears the body of our Lord.

Gentle Jesus, mighty Spirit,
Come inflame our hearts anew,
We may all your joy inherit,
If we bear the cross with you,
If we bear the cross with you.

Christ you lead and we shall follow,
stumbling though our steps may be,
One with you in joy and sorrow,
we the river you the sea,
we the river you the sea.

-- Anthem --

(Sung at Summerlea in 2016.)

Come, O Holy Spirit

Words: Fred Khan
Music: Ron Klusmeier

Come, O Holy Spirit,
Set the Church on fire,
Strike it as the lightning
Hits a posing spire...
Burn away the structures
And consume the sham
Of our holy systems
Come in Jesus' name!
....

Prayers of The People

Throughout These Lenten Days and Nights
(VU 108)

Throughout these Lenten days and nights
We turn to walk the inward way,
Where, meeting Christ, our guide and light,
We live in hope till Easter day.

The pilgrim Christ, the Lamb of God,
Who found in weakness greater power
Embraces us, though lost and flawed,
And leads us to his Rising Hour.

We bear the silence, cross and pain
Of human burdens, human strife,
Wile sisters, brothers help sustain
Our courage till the Feast of Life.

And though the road is hard and steep,
the Spirit ever calls us on
through Calvary's dying, dark and deep,
until we see the coming dawn.

So let us choose the path of One
Who wore, for us, the crown of thorn
And slept in death that we might wake
To life on Resurrection Morn!

Rejoice, O sons and daughters!
Sing and shout hosannas! Raise the strain!
For Christ, whose death Good Friday brings,
On Easter day will rise again!

Common Blessing
(Don Besig)

Go now in peace. Never be afraid.
God will go with you each hour of everyday.
Go now in faith, steadfast strong and true.
Know He will guide you in all that you do.
Go now in love and show you believe.
Reach out to others so all the world can see.
God will be there watching from above.
Go now in peace, in faith and in love.

Entrée
from Suite in G Minor
by G. F. Handel

Service is over... What to do??
I know!! Sing a few more!

Blessed Assurance
(VU 337)

Blessed assurance, Jesus is mine!
Oh, what a foretaste of glory divine!
Heir of salvation, purchase of God,
Born of his Spirit, washed in his blood.

This is my story, this is my song,
Praising my Savior all the day long.
This is my story, this is my song,
Praising my Savior all the day long.

Perfect submission, perfect delight,
Visions of rapture now burst on my sight.
Angels descending, bring from above
Echoes of mercy, whispers of love.
Refrain

Perfect submission, all is at rest.
I in my Savior am happy and blessed,
watching and waiting, looking above,
filled with God's goodness,
Lost in Christ's love.
Refrain

He Leadeth Me

He leadeth me: O blessed thought!
O words with heavenly comfort fraught!
Whate'er I do, where'er I be,
Still 'tis God's hand that leadeth me.

He leadeth me, he leadeth me;
By his own hand he leadeth me:
His faithful follower I would be,
For by his hand he leadeth me.

Sometimes mid scenes of deepest gloom,
Sometimes where Eden's bowers bloom,
By waters calm, o'er troubled sea,
Still 'tis his hand that leadeth me.
Refrain

Lord, I would clasp thy hand in mine,
Nor ever murmur nor repine;
Content, whatever lot I see,
Since 'tis my God that leadeth me.
Refrain

And when my task on earth is done,
When, by thy grace, the victory's won,
Even death's cold wave I will not flee,
Since God through Jordan leadeth me.
Refrain
