Second Sunday of Advent

Candles of Advent

by Don Besig

Call to Worship

This is our second Sunday of Advent!
Prepare the way of the Lord!
Make his paths straight!

Rebuild the roads less travelled;
Let your God love you the way you are;
Let your God love you the way you are!
And let there be Peace on Earth.

Advent Candles are Lighted

Isaiah spoke of the
Wonderful Counselor
The prince of Peace.
His influence shall continue
To grow all over the Earth
And there will be peace
Among the nations

Let us celebrate our inner peace
And seek peace for the world
Let peace embrace creation
Winding like a ribbon
Until it enfolds the earth.

Hope Is a Star
(VU 7, verses 1 & 2)

Hope is a star
That shines in the night,
leading us on till
The morning is bright.

Refrain:
When God is a child
There's joy in our song.
The last shall be first
And the weak shall be strong,
And none shall be afraid.

Peace is a ribbon that circles the earth,
giving a promise of safety and worth.

Refrain

O Come, O Come Emmanuel
(VU 1)

O come, O come, Emmanuel,
And ransom captive Israel
That mourns in lonely exile here
Until the Son of God appear.

Refrain: Rejoice! Rejoice!
Emmanuel
Shall come to you, O Israel.

O come, O Wisdom from on high,
Who ordered all things mightily;
To us the path of knowledge show
And teach us in its ways to go.

Refrain

O come, O come great God of might;
Who to your tribes on Sinai's height
In ancient times once gave the law
In cloud , and majesty, and awe.

Refrain

O come , O rod of Jesse's stem;
From every foe deliver them
That trust your mighty power to save;
And give them victory o'er the grave.

Refrain

O come, O Key of David, come
And open wide our heavenly home.
Make safe the way that leads on high,
And close the path to misery.

Refrain

O come, O Dayspring , from on high,
And cheer us by your drawing nigh;
Disperse the gloomy clouds of night,
And death's dark shadows put to flight.

Refrain

O come, Desire of nations, bind
All peoples in one heart and mind;
O bid all our sad divisions cease,
And be for us the Prince of Peace.

Refrain

Let Us Build a House
MV 1

Let us build a house
Where love can dwell
And all can safely live,
A place where saints and
Children tell how hearts
Learn to forgive.
Build of hopes and dreams
And visions,
Rock of faith and vault of grace;
Here the love of Christ
Shall end divisions:

All are welcome, all are welcome,
All are welcome in this place.

Let us build a house
Where all are named,
} Their songs and visions heard
And loved and treasured,
Taught and claimed as words
Within the Word.
Build of tears and cries
And laughter,
Prayers of faith and songs of grace;
Let his house proclaim
From floor to rafter:

All are welcome, all are welcome,
All are welcome in this place.

Herald! Sound the Note of Gladness
VU 28

Herald! Sound the note of gladness!
Tell the news that Christ is here;
Make a pathway through the desert
For the one who brings God near.
Sound the trumpet! Tell the message!
Christ the Saving One has come!

Herald! Sound the note of judgement,
Warning us of right and wrong,
Turning us from sin and sadness,
Till once more we sing the song.
Sound the trumpet! Tell the message!
Christ the Saving One has come!

Herald! Sound the note of pardon!
Those repenting are forgiven;
God receives these wayward children,
And to all new life is given.
Sound the trumpet! Tell the message!
Christ the Saving One has come!

Herald! Sound the note of triumph!
Christ has come to share our life,
Bringing God's own love and power,
Granting victory in our strife.
Sound the trumpet! Tell the message!
Christ the Saving One has come!
