Jesus' Baptism

-- Introit --
(Not recorded! Sorry.)

Spirit of the living God,
Fall afresh on me.
Spirit of the living God,
Fall afresh on me.
Melt me, mould me,
Fill me, use me,
Spirit of the living God,
Fall afresh on me...

Call to Worship

Prepare the way of the Lord
Make straight the path before Jesus!
Come to the Jordan river
With our shepherd and saviour;
We come, anxious to meet him,
Anxious to follow his teachings.
May our journey be fruitful!
May we come close to him!

I promise you we will! Amen.

Some words from Christine

In Retrospect

- A prayer of Confession -

When Jesus Comes to be Baptized
(VU 100)

When Jesus comes to be baptized,
He leaves the hidden years behind,
The years of safety and of peace,
To bear the sins of human kind.

The spirit of the Lord comes down,
Anoints the Christ to suffering,
To preach the word, to free the bound,
And to the mourner comfort bring.

He will not quench the dying flame,
And what is bruised he will not break
But heal the wound injustice dealt,
And out of death his triumph make.

O spirit help us be like Christ:
The live in love and charity,
To walk in truth and justice now,
And grow in Christian dignity.

We praise you, God, source of all life,
We praise you, Christ, eternal Word,
We praise you, Spirit, gracious gift;
Your triune presence fills our world.

There Is Room for All
(MV 62)

There is room for all
In the shadow of God's wing;
There is room for all,
Sheltered in God's love.
And I rejoice and sing,
"My refuge and my rock, in whom I trust."
There is room for all,
There is room for all!

Chacun a sa place
À l'abri sous l'aile de Dieu;
Chacun a sa place en l'amour de Dieu.
De joie, je chanterai:
"Mon refuge en lequel je me confie."
Chacun a sa place, chacun a sa place.

Christ within Us Hidden
(MV 162)

Christ, born in our stable,
Christ, our daily bread.
Christ, host at our table.
Christ, the hungry fed.

- Closing Hymn -

Will You Come and Follow Me
(VU 567)

Will you come and follow me
If I but call your name?
Will you go where you don't know
And never be the same?
Will you let my love be shown,
Will you let my name be known,
Will you let my life be grown
In you and you in me?

Will you leave yourself behind
If I but call your name?
Will you care for cruel and kind
And never be the same?
Will you risk the hostile stare
Should your life attract or scare?
Will you let me answer prayer
In you and you in me?

Will you let the blinded see
If I but call your name?
Will you set the prisoners free
And never be the same?
Will you kiss the leper clean,
And do such as this unseen,
And admit to what I mean
In you and you in me?

Will you love the "you" you hide
If I but call your name?
Will you quell the fear inside
And never be the same?
Will you use the faith you've found
To reshape the world around,
Through my sight
And touch and sound
In you and you in me?

Christ, your summons echoes true
When you but call my name.
Let me turn and follow you
And never be the same.
In your company I'll go
Where your love and footsteps show.
Thus I'll move and live and grow
In you and you in me.

Commissioning

Go out now, along with God
On the road of your life
We journey with Christ
In our community and in our world
Go out now, knowing who you are
And whose you are!
We bring God's love
And Christ's compassion with us;
Don't bring anything else!
God's grace is with you.
Praise be to God.
