Remembrance Day

O Canada
(VU 524)

O Canada! Our home and native land!
True patriot love in all our sons command.

With glowing hearts we see thee rise,
The True North, strong and free!
From far and wide,
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.

God keep our land glorious and free!
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.

Ô Canada
(VU 524)

Ô Canada! Terre de nos aïeux,
Ton front est ceint de fleurons glorieux!

Car ton bras sait porter l'épée,
Il sait porter la croix!
Ton histoire est une épopée
Des plus brillants exploits.

Et ta valeur, de foi trempée,
Protégera nos foyers et nos droits.
Protégera nos foyers et nos droits.

Weep for the Dead
(VU 526)

Weep for the dead. Let tears and silence tell
Of blood and battle, horror and renown.
The years diminish, but do not dispel
The pain of lives destroyed,
And life laid down.

Silent the dead. Remembering, we stand
Silent as they, for words cannot esteem
Causes of war, the love of native land,
All that they were,
And all they might have been.

Raising our flag, we stand with muffled drum,
Judged by the colors of God's love and loss,
Recalling, as we pray,
"Your Kingdom come,"
A purple robe, and blood upon a cross.

Summoned by love that leaves
No room for pride,
We pray that every continent and isle,
Wounded by war, war's hate may lay aside,
And find a way to heal and reconcile.

Weep for the dead, from all the ills of earth.
Stand by the cross that bids all hatred cease.
March to the drums of dignity and worth.
Salute the King of Love, the Prince of Peace.

John Gillespie Magee, Jr.

When Hands Reach Out Across Divides
(MV 169)

When hands reach out beyond divides
and hope is truly found,
each chain of hate will fall away
and bells of peace shall sound,
and bells of peace, of peace shall sound,
and bells of peace shall sound,
each chain of hate will fall away
and bells of peace shall sound.

When fear no longer guides
our steps and days of war are done,
God's dream for all shall live anew;
our hearts will heal as one,
our hearts will heal, will heal as one,
our hearts will heal as one,
God's dream for all shall live anew;
our hearts will heal as one.

When race and creed blind us no more,
a neighbour's face we'll see,
and we shall dance the whole
world round, for love will set us free,
for love, yes love will set us free,
for love will set us free,
and we shall dance the whole world round,
for love will set us free.

Offertory

God of all Good
(VU 239, verse 1)

God of all good, our gifts we bring you;
Use them Your holy purpose to fulfill.
Tokens of love and pledges brought anew
That our whole life is offered to Your will.

I See a New Heaven
VU 713

R: I see a new heaven. I see a new earth
As the old one will pass away,
Where the fountain of life flows
And without price goes
To all people who abide in the land.

There, there on the banks of a river bright and free,
Yielding her fruit, firm in her root,
The Tree of Life will be. R

There, there where death dies
And our lives are born again,
Body and soul, struggling but whole
Like flowers after the rain. R

There, there where the darkness
Brings visions from above.
There where the night, bearing new light,
Reveals the promise of love. R

There, there where we work
With the love of healing hands.
Labour we must, true to our trust
To build a promised new land. R

Commissioning

As we remove our poppy at the end of this week
of remembrance,
We keep in our hearts the memory of the fallen ones.
May all the peoples of the world come to live in peace.
We walk out of this place with gratitude and hope.
May the seeds of peace take root in us.
And blossom in a world where children grow and are
raised unharmed for the centuries to come.
