On Tuesday, July 29, 2008, the Montreal and Ottawa Conference staff, who occupy offices at
Summerlea, hosted the 2008 Bike Tour for lunch in St. Andrew's Hall. Michèle Brown and Doug
Stewart set up the tables and brought in lunch from IGA during the morning, and Conference
General Secretary Rosemary Brombie welcomed the group and helped serve. The Bike Tour group
arrived by bike about 12:30, ate lunch while enjoying conversation, and left about 1:30, heading
for Verdun United church where they are billeted, thence to visit Old Montreal. The Bike Tour is organized by David Fines of UMIF (United Church Ministry in French) and has taken place each summer since 2000. Young folks in the age group 14-19 are welcome to participate in the tour which saw them bicycling through the Eastern Townships to Quebec City and back, staying at churches (United and other) in towns along the way. This year the group included twelve young folk from Quebec and twenty-four from France together with eight adult leaders. The group from France spent sixteen days in Quebec. In 2009 the Bike Tour is scheduled to take place in France, but details are not yet available. |
