Farewell to Rev. Heather MacDougall 20 June 2010

Posted 21 June 2010
June 20, 2010 was our last Sunday service with Rev. Heather MacDougall, who has been with us since Rev. Howard Clark retired in June 2009. Heather and her partner Pix are planning to return to their PEI homeland this fall. Heather was also registered to take part in a week long seminar in Tatamagouche, N.B. starting Monday, June 21, so she could not linger.
During her last service the choir sang some of her favourite hymns (including one by an old classmate and one that she had not heard before she came to Summerlea). The youth choir also presented an unusual piece describing the roles of rhythm and harmony (or was it unharmony) in music.
During her year at Summerlea, Heather has endeared herself to the Summerlea congregation through her dedication and thougtfulness to everyone.
A reception in St. Andrew's Hall followed the service.

The Youth Choir took a while to get organized
for their intriquing musical interlude.

The Senior Choir presented some of Heather's
(and Summerlea's) favourites, bringing applause.

The old adage about an army travelling on its stomach seems to apply at Summerlea as well.
The reception after the service found a full house in St. Andrew's Hall enjoying the spread.

With hungers appropriately assuaged, Keith Field undertook
his last official task as Board Chairman before Sheila Hébert
takes over July 1, in bidding thank you and farewell to Heather.
Heather looked on with table mates Jeff and Bernard.

Then it was time for presentations. First came a bracelet, followed by a portrait by Louise Damecour.

Then a photo album depicting Summerlea activities during Heather's stay,
and some flowers from the youngsters.

Then the Youth Group came up with several items, including
a card signed by all (which engendered hugs all around),
and framed photos of their white water rafting experience.

Heather's time to respond found her almost at a loss for words,
but not for long, and she came through in her own inimitable style.

And her last official function at Summerlea: Cut the cake(s).
Despite some previous occasions, it took some help from her friends.
