and Mary Perri, Pfizer Canada's director of strategic program management, look on.The Chronicle, David Boily The brightest and most generous young West Islanders were given their due last Wednesday evening when The Chronicle once again held its Young Achievers gala. Pfizer Canada and Desjardins Group were the major sponsors for the event, now in its sixth year, held at John Abbott College in Ste. Anne de Bellevue. The evening's MC was Pierrefonds resident, Chronicle columnist and JAC professor George Springate, while CFCF broadcaster Randy Tieman was the guest speaker. The Young Achievers project aims to highlight the youth of the West Island aged 10 to 16 who rise above and beyond expectations in areas such as academics, sports, cultural activities and community giving. There was no shortage of proud smiles as parents watched their sons and daughters honoured on stage. Sixteen of the 50 Young Achievers, from four different age categories, also received cheques for $500. 
In four years of high school, Meghan has maintained a strong average of at least 86 per cent
in every class. The Lakeside Academy honour-roll student has received several awards since
elementary school, including a white school letter for overall achievement.Meghan got started early and has been an enthusiastic reader since she was three years old. She enjoys writing short stories and poetry - she was recently published in the anthology "Dragonfly Summer" by the Poetry Institute of Canada. Meghan has been a member of a number of theatre groups since she was 10 and appeared as an extra on two episodes of the television progam "Mental Block", which can be seen on YTV. The Lachine resident's deep interest in music has made her a long-time choir member at the Summerlea United Church. Meghan also performed in the musical " Oh Jonah" at Summerlea in 2004 as well as several talent and hip-hop shows. The leadership program member is committed to the community and has contributed more than 300 hours of her time to serving the public this year. Meghan is also an active voluteer at Summerlea, where she has helped with events such as bazaars. Félicitations à Meghan au nom de l'assemblée Summerlea. |
