Who Is This Stranger?
(Joseph M. Martin)

Who is this stranger
Walking Judea?
Who is this one
Helping the poor?
Who is this man
Who is healing the people?
Surely he's the son of God...

Call to Worship

Welcome our King among us! Welcome Jesus of
Nazareth! He is entering the gates of the town on a
donkey, and people cry in acclamation.
We welcome Christ Jesus in our heart, praise him
and sing glory to the Eternal Father.

We know that Jesus' eternal life and ministry has to go
through the martyrdom of crucifixion and death.
But we know that his eternal life and presence will defeat
all the hatred and conflicts in the world.
We thank God for giving his only son to the world,
we come to pray and celebrate that Jesus was
recognized on earth as the Messiah.

Let us pray to our God:
Give us joy O God
For the coming of Jesus in the New Jerusalem,
Our hearts and our lives.
Gently and humbly,
Jesus rides on a donkey and brings love and service
to all.

He is an example of humility and grace,
He is a friend that everyone would like to know,
He is an answer to all our worries and suffering.

Send him further dear God,
To the end of the world of 2025,
To stop wars and poverty,
To heal and cure and bring justice at once!

Give us faith O God,
So we see the changes around us,
That we sing of our joy and gratitude,
For all that Jesus did for Israel and for the world.
Amen.

He Came Riding on a Donkey
(VU 124)

He came riding on a donkey,
He came riding into town;
Slow and easy kind of lowly
He came riding with the dawn.
His disciples walked beside him,
Staying close, a little shy;
Not too sure where he would guide them,
On to live or on to die.

But all the morning sang his praises;
Waking birds and dancing wind;
Here he is, the Son of David;
Riding on to take his throne.

Then the children gathered,
Singing shouts of laughter, bursting cheer;
In the streets their song was ringing,
"Hosannas" filled the morning air.
Timid adults strained to see him,
Caught the Spirit, joined the song;
Spread their cloaks along before him,
Branches flashing in the sun.

So all the city sang his praises;
Waking streets and dancing crowd;
Here he is, the Son of David;
Our Messiah, Son of God.

In our fasting, and our feasting,
Called to follow in his way;
Called to walk his road to Easter,
Called to live his cross today.
Hosanna to the Son of David,
Hosanna in the heavens above;
Blessed is he who comes to save us,
Blessed is he who brings his love.

Let us join to sing his praises;
Open hearts and souls to God;
He is with us, Son of David;
God's Messiah, Christ the Lord.

Forgive our sin Loving God,
Erase from our hearts our lack of love
and life-killing deeds,
that hinder your glory to shine on earth.
We are yours
but we are incomplete,
and imperfect.

But we are capable of love,
of kindness and of justice.
May the Spirit cleanse our hearts
and prepare us to live
the triumphal entrance of Jesus
through our lives, the streets of Jerusalem.

- The Anthem -

O're all the way,
Green palms and blossoms gay
Are strewn today in festal preparation,
Where Jesus comes,
To wipe our tears away,
E'en now the throng to welcome him prepare...

- The Offering -

Prayer for the Offering

Bless these offerings Eternal One, bless and bless again
all those on earth for whom you sent your beloved son
Jesus.
We are honoured to serve alongside him,
to be known as His friends,
and to contribute to the wellness
of our community.

Bless these offerings Father God
That none be left behind, hungry, alone, and ill.
Bless and heal the world Mighty God,
So that we praise you all the days of our lives.
Amen.

Luke 22:14-23

The written Text

Sanctus

Holy, Holy, Holy, Lord God almighty,
Early in the morning, our song shall rise to thee.
Holy, holy, holy, merciful and mighty,
God in three persons, blessed Trinity.

I Come with Joy
(VU 477)

I come with joy, a child of God,
Forgiven, loved and free,
The life of Jesus to recall,
In love laid down for me.
In love laid down for me.

"Christ breaks bread
and bids us share..."

I come with Christians far and near
To find, as all are fed,
The new community of love
In Christ's communion bread.
In Christ's communion bread.

As Christ breaks bread and bids us share,
Each proud division ends.
The love that made us, makes us one,
And strangers now are friends.
And strangers now are friends.

The Spirit of the risen Christ,
Unseen, but ever near,
Is in such friendship better known,
Alive among us here.
Alive among us here.

Together met, together bound
By all that God has done,
We'll go with joy, to give the world
The love that makes us one.
The love that makes us one.

- Sending Forth -

Now go beloved people of God.
We have relived the triumphal entry of Jesus in Jerusalem
But we also continue to welcome him in our hearts
and homes.
We go now, happy to share in fellowship
And continue to praise our Father God, the Son and
the Spirit.

Go out and be a blessing
Go out and be hope for someone
Go out and be a brother or a sister to all.
We leave and know that God is with us: we shall
Rejoice always.
May it be so!

Prayers for People

Go Now in Peace
