Apology! Due to my human error the recorder was not on until Mel's reading from Matthew but from then on there is audio. So sorry.

Centering Prayer
(Bill Steadman)

We are open to your goodness, O God, as we prepare
to review our year as a community of faith.

We are aware of the many ways that we seek
your presence to support our faithful living as your disciples.
Each new day,
we need your encouragement to guide us,
individually and as a congregation.
Bless the words that we share, the songs that we sing,
the music that we celebrate,
and the prayers that we offer this day.
We ask this in Jesus' name.
Amen.

Call to Worship

God of transformation and transfiguration,
We come to the mountaintop, joining Jesus, Peter, James, and John.
This is the time of transformation.
Transformation begins as the Holy is encountered.
This is the time of transformation.
It continues as we listen carefully and are attentive.
This is the time of transformation.
It takes shape as the significance of Jesus is acknowledged.
This is the time of transformation.
It is proved as we go about the work of your anointed one, O God.
This is the time of transformation.
We open our spirits to your transforming love, Gracious God. Amen.

Let Us Build A House (All Are Welcome)
(MV 1)

Let us build a house where love can dwell
And all can safely live,
A place where saints and children tell
How hearts learn to forgive.
Built of hopes and dreams and visions,
Rock of faith and vault of grace;
Here the love of Christ shall end divisions.

R: All are welcome, all are welcome,
All are welcome in this place.

Let us build a house where love is found
In water, wine and wheat:
A banquet hall on holy ground
Where peace and justice meet.
Here the love of God, through Jesus,
Is revealed in time and space;
As we share in Christ
The feast that frees us. R.

Let us build a house where hands will reach
Beyond the wood and stone
To heal and strengthen, serve and teach,
And live the Word they've known.
Here the outcast and the stranger
Bear the image of God's face;
Let us bring an end to fear and danger. R.

Let us build a house where all are named,
Their songs and visions heard
And loved and treasured, taught and claimed
As words within the Word.
Built of tears and cries and laughter,
Prayers of faith and songs of grace,
Let this house proclaim
From floor to rafter. R.

Gathering Prayer

Loving God, you enable us to make changes that matter.
With your love,
You transform our sadness into joy, our defeat into
hope.

With your love,
You transform our apathy into commitment, our
selfishness into thanksgiving.

With your love,
You transform our indifference into praise, our
shyness into laughter.

Transforming God,
We are restored by your presence to be the
faithful ones we are called to be.

In gratitude, we open our hearts now to you, sharing
honestly, what needs transformation in our lives.
(Time of silent prayer)
Loving God, you enable us to make changes that matter.
With your love, you transform our lives. Thank you.

Amen.

We Have Come at Christ's Own Bidding
(VU 104)

We have come at Christ's own bidding
To this high and holy place,
Where we wait with hope and longing
For some token of God's grace.
Here we pray for new assurance
That our faith is not in vain,
Searching like those first disciples
For a sign both clear and plain.

Light breaks in upon our darkness;
Splendour bathes the flesh-joined Word;
Moses and Elijah marvel
As the heavenly voice is heard.
Eyes and hearts behold with wonder
How the Law and Prophets meet:
Christ, with garments drenched in brightness,
Stands transfigured and complete.

Strengthened by this glimpse of glory,
Fearful lest our faith decline,
We like Peter find it tempting
To remain and build a shrine.
But true worship gives us courage
To proclaim what we profess,
That our daily lives may prove us people
Of the God we bless.

** In lieu of a sermon, folks called out their favourite hymns
for an old fashiond HymnSing (2 verses each) **

In Christ There Is No East Or West
(VU 606, tune of #344, verse 1 & 2)

In Christ There Is No East Or West,
In Him no South or North;
But one great fellowship of love
Throughout the whole wide earth.

In Him shall true hearts everywhere
Their high communion find;
His service is the golden cord,
Close binding humankind.

Tell Me the Stories of Jesus
(VU 357, verses 1 & 2)

Tell me the stories of Jesus
I love to hear;
Things I would ask Him to tell me
If He were here;
Scenes by the wayside,
Tales of the sea,
Stories of Jesus,
Tell them to me.

First let me hear how the children
Stood round His knee,
And I shall fancy His blessing
Resting on me;
Words full of kindness,
Deeds full of grace,
All in the love light
Of Jesus' face.

I, The Lord of Sea and Sky
(VU 509, verse 1 & 3)

I, The Lord of Sea and Sky
I have heard My people cry.
All who dwell in dark and sin,
My hand will save.
I who made the stars of night,
I will make their darkness bright.
Who will bear My light to them?
Whom shall I send?

R: Here I am Lord, Is it I Lord?
I have heard You calling in the night.
I will go Lord, if You lead me.
I will hold Your people in my heart

I, the Lord of wind and flame,
I will tend the poor and lame.
I will set a feast for them,
My hand will save
Finest bread I will provide,
Till their hearts be satisfied.
I will give My life to them,
Whom shall I send?
R.

Be Thou My Vision
(VU 642, verses 1 & 2)

Be Thou my Vision,
O joy of my heart;
Naught be all else to me,
Save that Thou art;
Thou my best thought,
By day or by night,
Waking or sleeping,
Thy presence my light.

Be Thou my Wisdom,
My calm in all in all strife;
I ever with Thee
And thou in my life;
Thou loving parent,
Thy child may I be,
Thou in me dwelling,
And I one with thee.

In the Bulb There Is a Flower
(VU 703, verses 1 & 2)

In the bulb there is a flower,
In the seed, an apple tree,
In cocoons, a hidden promise:
Butterflies will soon be free!
In the cold and snow of winter
There's a spring that waits to be,
Unrevealed until its season,
Something God alone can see.

There's a song in every silence,
Seeking word and melody;
There's a dawn in every darkness,
Bringing hope to you and me.
From the past will come the future;
What it holds, a mystery,
Unrevealed until its season,
Something God alone can see.

Jesus, Saviour, Pilot Me
(VU 637, verses 1 & 3)

Jesus, Savior, pilot me
Over life's tempestuous sea:
Unknown waves before me roll,
Hiding rocks and treacherous shoal.
Chart and compass come from Thee:
Jesus, Savior, pilot me.

When at last I near the shore,
And the fearful breakers roar
'Twixt me and the peaceful land,
Still supported by thy hand,
May I hear thee say to me,
"Fear not, I will pilot thee."

Great Is Thy Faithfulness
(VU 288, verses 1 & 2)

Great is thy faithfulness, God our Creator;
There is no shadow of turning with thee;
Thou changest not,
Thy compassions, they fail not;
As thou hast been thou forever wilt be.

R: Great is thy faithfulness!
Great is thy faithfulness!
Morning by morning new mercies I see;
All I have needed thy hand hath provided
Great is thy faithfulness, ever to me!

Summer and winter
And springtime and harvest,
Sun, moon, and stars
In their courses above
Join with all nature
In manifold witness
To thy great faithfulness,
Mercy, and love.
R:

Fairest Lord Jesus
(VU 341, verses 1 & 4)

Fairest Lord Jesus, ruler of all nature,
O thou of God to earth come down:
Thee will I cherish, thee will I honour,
Thou my soul's glory, joy, and crown.

All fairest beauty heavenly and earthly,
Wondrously, Jesus is found in thee;
None can be nearer, fairer or dearer
Than thou, my Saviour, art to me.

Tell Me the Stories of Jesus
(VU 357, verses 1 & 2)

Tell me the stories of Jesus
I love to hear;
Things I would ask Him to tell me
If He were here;
Scenes by the wayside, tales of the sea,
Stories of Jesus, tell them to me.

First let me hear how the children
Stood round His knee,
And I shall fancy His blessing resting on me;
Words full of kindness,
Deeds full of grace,
All in the love light of Jesus' face.

- Anthem -

Gonna ride up in the chariot
Soon in the mornin'
Ride up in the chariot
Soon in the mornin'
And I hope I join the band...

(By Larry Shackley)

- The Offering -

God of many names,
God of our ancestors and of our descendants,
God of love and peace and justice,
accept what we do and what we give this day.
Accept the sacrifices we make, big and little,
of our time, our energy, our resources.
Bless what we offer, we pray,
for the life-changing ministry of Jesus Christ.
We ask it in his holy name. Amen.

Offertory Hymn
(VU 544)

In gratitude and humble trust
We bring our best today
To serve your cause and share your love
With all along life's way.

O God, who gave yourself to us
In Jesus Christ, your Son,
Teach us to give ourselves each day
Until life's work is done.

You Shall Go Out with Joy
(VU 884)

You shall go out with joy
And be led forth with peace,
And the mountains and the hills
Will break forth before you.
There'll be shouts of joy
And the trees of the fields
Will clap, will clap their hands.
And all the trees of the fields
Will clap their hands,
And the trees of the fields
Will clap their hands,
And the trees of the fields
Will clap their hands,
While you go out with joy.

(Isaiah 55)

Common Blessing
(Don Besig)

Go now in peace. Never be afraid.
God will go with you each hour of every day
Go now in faith, steadfast, strong, and true.
Know He will guide you in all you do.

Go now in love, and show you believe.
Reach out to others so all the world can see.
God will be there watching from above.
Go now in peace, in faith, and in love.

Commission & Blessing
