May pain draw forth compassion
Let wisdom rise from loss
Oh, take my heart and fashion
The image of your cross
Then may I know your healing
Through healing that I share
Your grace and love revealing
Your tenderness and care.

Call to Worship

One: In a world that often walks in shadows,
Christ comes as light.
All: Open our eyes, O God.
One: When we are quick to judge
and slow to love,
when we look but do not truly see
All: Open our eyes, O Christ.

One: When fear keeps us from noticing suffering,
when certainty blinds us to new truth
All: Open our eyes, O Spirit.
One: Come, let us worship the One
who kneels in the dust,
who restores dignity,
who seeks the cast-out,
who brings sight to the world.
All: We come to see more clearly.
We come to follow the Light.
Let us worship God. Amen.

Love Us Into Fullness
(MV 81)

Love us into fullness,
touch us with your grace;
Jesus, in your mercy,
draw us to your face.

Love us into fullness,
Hold us in your care,
Cheer us with your presence
Here and everywhere.

Love us into fullness,
And we will be strong;
Jesus, walk beside us,
Fill our hearts with song.

Prayer of Confession

Gracious and Searching God,
You are the Light of the world,
yet we confess that we do not always
welcome the light.
We prefer what is familiar.
We cling to what feels certain.
We explain away suffering rather than sit beside it.
We judge before we listen.
We speak when we should learn.
Forgive us for the ways we have been blind
Amen

Words of Assurance

I Have Called You by Your Name
(MV 161)

I have called you by your name, you are mine;
I have gifted you and ask you now to shine.
I will not abandon you;
All my promises are true.
You are gifted, called, and chosen; you are mine.

I will help you learn my name as you go;
Read it written in my people, help them grow.
Pour the water in my name,
Speak the word your soul can claim,
Offer Jesus' body, given long ago.

I know you will need my touch as you go;
Feel it pulsing in creation's ebb and flow.
Like the woman reaching out,
Choosing faith in spite of doubt,
Hold the hem of Jesus' robe, then let it go.

I have given you a name, it is mine;
I have given you my Spirit as a sign.
With my wonder in your soul,
Make my wounded children whole;
Go and tell my precious people they are mine.

The Lord's My Shepherd
(VU 747)

The Lord's my shepherd, I'll not want.
He makes me down to lie
In pastures green; he leadeth me
The quiet waters by.

My soul he doth restore again,
And me to walk doth make
Within the paths of righteousness,
Even for his own name's sake.

Yea, though I walk in death's dark vale,
Yet will I fear none ill,
For thou art with me and thy rod
And staff me comfort still.

My table thou hast furnished
In presence of my foes.
My head thou dost with oil anoint,
And my cup overflows.

Goodness and mercy all my life
Shall surely follow me,
And in God's house forevermore
My dwelling place shall be.

John 9:1-17,24-41

Open My Eyes, That I May See
(VU 371)

Open my eyes, that I may see
Glimpses of truth thou hast for me;
Place in my hands the wonderful key
That shall unclasp and set me free.

R:
Silently now I wait for thee,
Ready, my God, thy will to see.
Open my eyes, illumine me, Spirit divine!

Open my ears, that I may hear
Voices of truth thou sendest clear;
And while the wave-notes fall on my ear,
Everything false will disappear.
R.

Open my mouth and let me bear
gladly the warm truth everywhere.
Open my heart and let me prepare
love with thy children thus to share. R.

- Anthem -

I have felt the hand of God in your hand.
Holding me, you gave me strength to stand.
When I was all alone,
You came and met my need.
And when I lost my way,
Your hand was ther to lead.
Through your touch,
God's hand reached out to me.
I have felt the hand of God in your hand...

- The Offering -

For the Gift of Creation
(VU 538)

For the gift of creation,
The gift of your love,
And the gift of the Spirit
By which we live,
We thank you and give you
The fruit of our hands.
May your grace be proclaimed
By the gifts that we give.

May the God of Hope Go with Us
(VU 424)

May the God of hope go with us every day,
Filling all our lives with love and joy and peace.
May the God of justice speed us on our way,
Bring light and hope to every land and race.

Refrain:
Praying, let us work for peace,
Singing, share our joy with all,
Working for a world that's new,
Faithful when we hear Christ's call.

May the God of healing free the earth from fear.
Freeing us for peace, both treasured and pursued.
May the god of love keep our commitment clear
To a world restored, to human life renewed. Refrain
