Christ Arose
(Robert Lowry, verses 1 & 3))

Low in the grave he lay
Jesus my saviour!
Waiting the coming day
Jesus my Lord!

R. Up from the grave he arose,
With a mighty triumph o'r his foes;
He arose a victor from the dark domain,
And he lives forever with his saints to reign.
He arose! He arose!
Hallelujah! Christ arose!

Death cannot keep his Prey,
Jesus, my Saviour!
He tore the bars away,
Jesus, my Lord! R.

Time of Centering
(Dennis Brown)

It is our time to calm ourselves.
Take a deep breath,
relax your shoulders,
and settle your thoughts.
Summerlea is a safe place,
you are among friends,
and we make ourselves
ready to worship and give thanks
to the Lord our God.

Call to Worship

The stone has been rolled away.
Christ is risen!
The darkness of death has been overcome.
Christ is risen indeed!
Let us worship the God of resurrection
and new life. Amen.

Jesus Christ Is Risen Today
(VU 155)

Jesus Christ is risen today, Hallelujah
Our triumphant holy day, Hallelujah!
Who did once upon the cross Hallelujah!
Suffer to redeem our loss. Hallelujah!

Hymns of praise then let us sing Hallelujah!
Unto Christ our heavenly King, Hallelujah!
Who endured the cross and grave, Hallelujah!
Sinners to redeem and save. Hallelujah!

But the pains which he endured, Hallelujah!
Our salvation have procured; Hallelujah!
Now above the sky he's King, Hallelujah!
Where the angels ever sing. Hallelujah!

Sing we to our God above, Hallelujah!
Praise eternal as his love; Hallelujah!
Praise him, all ye heavenly host, Hallelujah!
Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Hallelujah!

Prayer of Confession

Loving and Life-Giving God,
in this season of resurrection hope,
we come before you as we are
honest, searching, and in need of your grace.

You raised Jesus from the grave,
yet we confess
that we do not always live as Easter people.
We hold on to fear and worry,
we resist change and new life,
we turn away from your call
to love one another fully.

When we could bring hope,
we sometimes bring hesitation.
When we could act with compassion,
we sometimes remain distant.
When we could trust your promise of new life,
we fall back into doubt and discouragement.
Forgive us, O God.

Gently turn us again
toward your light we pray. Amen.

Words of Assurance

The Old Rugged Cross

On a hill far away stood an old rugged cross,
The emblem of suffering and shame;
And I love that old cross
Where the dearest and best
For a world of lost sinners was slain.
So I'll cherish the old rugged cross
Till my trophies at last I lay down;
I will cling to the old rugged cross
And exchange it some day for a crown.

To the old, rugged cross I will ever be true,
Its shame and reproach gladly bear;
Then He'll call me some day
To my home far away,
Where His glory forever I'll share.
So I'll cherish the old rugged cross
Till my trophies at last I lay down;
I will cling to the old rugged cross
And exchange it some day for a crown.
I will cling to the old rugged cross
And exchange it some day for a crown.

The Day of Resurrection
(VU 164)

The day of resurrection!
Earth, tell it out abroad,
The passover of gladness,
The passover of God!
From death to life eternal,
From earth unto the sky,
Our Christ has brought us over
With hymns of victory.

Our hearts be free of evil,
That we may see aright
The Christ in rays eternal
Of resurrection light,
And, listening to the accents,
May hear so calm and plain
Christ's own "All hail!" and, hearing,
May raise the victor strain.

Now let the heavens be joyful,
Let earth its song begin,
The round world keep high triumph,
And all that is therein;
Let all things seen and unseen
Their notes of gladness blend,
For Christ indeed is risen,
Our Joy that has no end.

Sunday Message

- Anthem -

Jesus is risen,
Proclaim the joyful tidings:
He who was crucified
Has triumphed o'er the grave!
Lift up your voices,
Singing alleluias!
Freed from death's pow'r
Are those he came to save!
Alleluia, alleluia! Jesus is risen!...

(John M Rasley, W. Mozart)

Offertory Hymn
(VU 541)

Praise God from whom all blessings flow;
Praise God, all creatures high and low;
Give thanks to God in love made known:
Creator, Word and Spirit, One.

Thine Is The Glory
(VU 173)

Thine is the glory,
Risen, conqu'ring Son:
Endless is the victory
Thou o'er death hast won.
Angels in bright raiment
Rolled the stone away,
Kept the folded grave-clothes
Where the body lay.

R: Thine is the glory,
Risen, conquering Son
Endless is the victory
Thou o'er death hast won.

Lo, Jesus meets us,
Risen from the tomb.
Lovingly He greets us,
Scatters fear and gloom.
Let the church with gladness
Hymns of triumph sing,
For the Lord now liveth:
Death hath lost its sting. R.

No more we doubt Thee,
Glorious Prince of life;
Life is nought without thee:
Aid us in our strife;
Make us more than conquerors,
Through thy deathless love;
Bring us safe through Jordan
To thy home above. R.
