After spending the last eight months as an intern minister at Summerlea, Barend Biesheuval was
ordained a minister of the United Church of Canada at St. James United Church in Montreal on Saturday
evening, 27 May 2006. Some twenty Summerlea folk were in attendance at the service, which featured lots of
applause and generally joyful response to the ordination of Barend and seven other candidates. Barend will be ministering to two charges in the area of Madoc, Ontario, west of Ottawa on Hwy 7, about an hour north of Belleville. Congratulations and very best wishes to Barend from all your friends at Summerlea. Following are a few snapshots of the event, which are pickable to see a larger version. |

but scaffolding still hides much of the beauty that will soon be evident. Inside, the church is in the form of a cross, large, light and open, with a balcony on three sides. The organ and choral music resound majestically. |
The choir sits in raised pews behind the organ console, which is low front and centre. There is a lectern but no pulpit (of interest to our sanctuary refurbishment committee). The St. James choir was joined by the Conference choir and, for some hymns, the Gospel choir, standing. |
