On a sunny but cold Tuesday, 13 February 2007, the Summerlea women's Serendipity Group held an open
meeting to hear from the folks of Union United Church in Ste. Anne-de-Bellevue about their experiences
in becoming an affirming congregation. The discussion was led by Ann Marie Kubanek, Judy Cooper and her husband Jack Brown of Union United. Following their presentations they showed a video of a woman describing (very eloquently) her experience with the discovery that her daughter was a lesbian who ultimately committed suicide because of the pressures of society, including the church. The mother's search for and discovery of how to deal with the issue was sometimes heart rending but ultimately heart warming. After the video there was a lengthy period of questions and discussions, followed by tea, coffee and goodies prepared by the Serendipity ladies. Following are a few photos of the proceedings (pickable to see a larger version). |
